Exploring Electric Cars with Heat Pump Technology

In the changing world of electric car. innovations are continued to take the evolution of amazing technologies. Once such advance attention gaining technology is a heat pump in an electric car. But what exactly is a heat pump? how does it changed the driving experience of an EV owner, which are the cars have heat pump?

we will be talking about all these things in this blog post. Heat pump in EVs is a game changer in the electric cars market. Let us dive into the post without any further delay.

What is a Heat Pump?

A pump in an electric car is basically a fridge that works in reverse. For example the fridge we use in our home makes the things cool and increases the self life of fruits and vegetables kept in it. So basically the pump do the same. It provides heat and increase the life of the battery and provides heat to the passengers seating inside, resulting in comfort driving.

Heat pump in an electric car provides heat to the passengers and it helps to keep the battery warm which results in the higher range even in very cold weather. It was seen that the range of an electric car decreases when the temperature decreases so the manufacturers came up with a solution for it called heat pump.

It was discovered for EVs because traditional cars produces a lot of heat and and the heat it transfer to the cabin for passengers for better comfort even in negative temperature. An electric car motor also produces a lot of heat which captured and use to keep the cabin and the battery warm in cold weather.

This helps the driver and the passenger to not use any extra heater fan which can consume a lot of energy and may decrease the range.

What is the point of Having a Heat Pump?

Well we have already talked about the efficiency of heat pumps, this means all the energy generated in heat form is used for the benefits. The major point of having a heat pump is increased efficiency and cost saving. To understand it clearly a heat pump is about 300 percent more efficient which means that every 3 kilowatt hours heat is using only 1 kilowatt hour energy from the main battery. This is so much efficient and a lot of saving.

Do you Get Heat Pump in all EVs?

The short answer is NO!

Heat pump is somethings which does not come in all electric cars, some of the cars do come with a heat pump but, more than 60% electric cars do not have heat pump. You can additionally get it installed from the manufacturer for which they charge you extra money. It is not always about the money, some cheap electric cars can also have heat pumps like Renault Zoe it has a heat pump.

List of the Electric Cars with Heat Pump

Now we will be exploring the cars which comes with a heat pump. The list contain cars from all the range like higher and medium range electric cars.

1. Nissan Ariya

Nissan Ariya electric car comes with a heat pump which helps to boost the range. The heat pump in this car works to make the cabin warm and also preconditions the batter if needed which results in higher range.

2. All new Tesla models

The integration of heat pump in Tesla electric cars have a direct impact in the range and performance of it. It reduces the energy used in climate control and the heat pump helps to boost the battery power for better utilization. This helps in longevity of battery pack in extreme weather condition.

3. Audi q4 e-tron

The Audi Q4 e-tron now comes with an innovative heat pump system that is designed to utilize the energy efficiently and enhances the climate control with the car’s cabin. The heat pump in the car represents a significant advancement in EVs. This offers so many benefits to the driver and the passenger of the car.

4. Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Heat pump in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 operates very smoothly and regulates the interior temperature in the cold weather. During extreme cold the heat pump takes the heat from the motor of the car and takes to the cabin and battery. The cabin feels warm and when battery receives heat, the range increases automatically.

5. Kia EV9

Kia EV9 also comes with heat pump that keeps the car warm and maintain the temperature inside the car cabin. When it is cold outside the heat pump brings the heat from the car motor to the cabin and make it warm. And when it is hot, it helps to cool things down by taking away all the heat from the car outside. This saves a lot of energy and makes the car more efficient.

6. Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with a heat pump, a clever system that helps to regulate the temperature inside the car cabin more efficiently. When it is extreme cold outside, the heat pump makes the cabin warm and when it is warm outside the heat pump makes the cabin warm. This provides a very good experience to the passenger and saves electricity which helps to increase the range.

7. Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar I-Pace also comes with an equipped heat pump that manages and control the climate inside the car. It also helps to increase the range of the car and provides a better driving experience. It is very useful in extreme weather condition where the range of the car decreases instantly. But n Jaguar I-Pace you will not face any such problem.  It saves us to use any extra heater inside the car, which might use a lot of electricity form the car can may reduce the range of the car.

8. Subaru Solterra

Subaru Solterra uses an innovative heat pump system, that is specially designed to optimize the comfort while at the same time minimizing energy consumption. This technology takes the advantage of the surrounding thermal energy and uses it efficiently. It helps to regulate the temperature inside the car in extreme weather condition.
